The star of the show, as the name suggests, is undoubtedly the soup dumplings. Delicately crafted and bursting with flavorful broth, these little pockets of joy are a must-try. Diners rave about the pork soup dumplings, considered by many to be the best in Midtown—juicy, tender, and packed with savory fillings that will have your taste buds dancing. For a twist, indulge in the crab dumplings, which deliver an irresistibly rich flavor enhanced by a delightful dipping sauce. Beyond dumplings, Joe's menu features an enticing selection of dishes such as the Shanghai-style spare ribs and the crispy beef, both of which are bursting with authentic Chinese flavors that transport you straight to the bustling streets of Shanghai.

The atmosphere at Joe's is welcoming and casual, making it an ideal spot for groups or a laid-back meal with friends. With an attentive staff committed to providing quality service, you'll feel right at home as you savor each bite of your meal. However, be forewarned: the restaurant can get lively, especially during peak hours, so consider arriving early to secure a seat and fully enjoy the dining experience.

Many patrons have noted the authenticity of the dishes, with one customer, Jia Sun, passionately lauding Joe's as a superior option to a famous rival, "better get there before noon if you don't want to wait for a seat!" Others echo this sentiment, celebrating how the restaurant manages to deliver authentic flavors even with a diverse team in the kitchen. It’s clear that each dish is crafted with care, reflected in the overwhelmingly positive reviews from those who have dined here.

Your culinary adventure at Joe's Home of Soup Dumplings isn’t merely about the food; it’s a celebration of communal dining, where shareable plates of savory goodness bring friends and family closer together. We came here for dinner and ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, chicken dumplings, and a stir-fry with rice noodles and beef. We also had a pot of green tea. The food arrived fairly quickly and was tasty. In my opinion, the waitstaff came by the table a bit too often while we were eating, which was a little distracting. The acoustics in the restaurant aren’t great. Even though it wasn’t very crowded, there was this unexplained background noise. I assume it’s due to the acoustics. You don’t need to shout to have a conversation, but it was a bit hard to clearly hear the person sitting across from you.

After shopping on fifth avenue, we were walking around looking for a place to eat lunch. Finally we decided to try Joe Shanghai’s again. We were here with a group a few years ago. Today we had one order of pork soup dumplings and one order of Shanghai style spare ribs. Both dishes were very tasty and we would recommend both of them. The restaurant was not too busy but the sound level was too much. So we asked to move to another table near the work area on the right and it was a little better. Very good lunch but just too loud. They need some soundproofing.

Some of tbe best soup dumplings in midtown, much better than Din Tai Fung even though almost all staff making are hispanic. Better get there before noon if you don't want to wait for a seat. Not sure why they used the bowl mold to plate the rice, make the plate look very empty. From the lunch specials only a handful are authentic Chinese, rest are Chinese American dishes for the local crowd. Love the large cup offered for the dumplings, able to catch all the soup without spilling. Which are full of soup with thin transluscent skin and none popped while taking out of the basket.

Great soup dumplings! Stopped for a late lunch this afternoon. We tried all three varieties of soup dumplings. All tasted great. The pork soup dumplings were our favorite. We also tried the steamed pork dumplings, which were magnificent. We'll be back the next chance we get!

We absolutely loved the food here! We tried the pork soup dumplings, crispy beef, and scallion pancake. The scallion pancake was good, but not great, but the soup dumplings and crispy beef were amazing! I look forward to stopping by again in the future.

We came on a Sunday night as a group. We made it right before the kitchen closed. They have some options for vegetarians. The veggie lo mein, scallion pancake, and veggie spring roll were good. The food came hot. The server was attentive. Causal atmosphere. Good for groups. Plates are shareable.
